Different hardware configuration: All Pimax headsets (such as Crystal and Dream Air) are equipped with four grayscale tracking cameras. Their primary purpose is precise 6DOF tracking, and they do not support color imaging. Headsets that support color passthrough have an additional dedicated RGB camera, which is the hardware foundation for color passthrough.

Different product positioning: Pimax's core strengths are ultra-wide field of view, high-resolution immersive PCVR experiences, and its target users are hardcore gamers and professional users. Passthrough is designed only as a safety aid (for example, boundary alerts or quickly checking your surroundings to avoid collisions), rather than a core MR (mixed reality) interaction feature.

Low latency and practicality: Pimax's black-and-white passthrough reuses the raw data from the tracking cameras, enabling fast processing and low latency. A double-tap on the headset quickly switches views, meeting the safety need of "instantly checking your surroundings." Color passthrough, by contrast, requires additional color processing and AI blending, which places higher demands on hardware performance and is not fully aligned with Pimax's optimization focus on immersive experiences.
