1 Preliminary preparation work
1.1 Pitool installation guide
- To download Pitool, please go to https://pimax.com to find Support at the bottom of the page. Then click on Downloads ＆ Manuals.
- Click on Download under Pitool.
- After download completed, find that driver in Download folder. Double-click on the installation package (PitoolSetup), select the Language and click on Next.
- Enter installation guide, choose the start menu folder and click on next.
- Enter the additional task and click on next.
- Enter installation is ready and click on installation.
- Wait for the installation till it is end.
- Pitool shortcut key will be displayed on the desktop.
1.2 Base station installation guide
- If you don’t have base stations, please skip this step.
- Put the base station in diagonal way and 2M high is suggested. The diagonal line of 5M has covered your game area. Please refer to the following setup.
2 Pitool Connection instructions
- Double-click on the Pitool shortcut to find the following.
2.1 Beginner’s guide in Pitool Connection
- Enter beginner’s guide and click on next.
- Physical cable connection
* 4.5M cable connection:One port is connected to the headset, another port is divided into three. The blue one is the power supply port which should be connected to USB 2.0 port (blue/pink) on the PC. The black one is data port which should be connected to USB port on the PC. Plug the DP cable (DP 1.4) into the DP port (DP 1.4) of the discrete graphics card on your PC.
* 5M cable connection:One port is connected to the headset, another port is divided into two. The power adapter port should be plugged into the socket.The black one is data port which should be connected to USB on the PC. Plug the DP cable (DP 1.4) into the DP port (DP 1.4) of the discrete graphics card on your PC.
* 6M fiber optical cable connection:One port is connected to the headset, another port should be connected to discrete graphics card on the PC.
- After connection, choose the corresponding power supply mode in Pitool. Click on next, it will show that DP cable connected. Continue clicking on next.
2.2 Start SteamVR in Pitool Connection
- SteamVR is for playing games. Before clicking on SteamVR, it needs to be downloaded and installed on the PC.Then restart SteamVR in Pitool.
2.3 Room setting in Pitool Connection
- Click on “start setup”and operate according to the following screenshot.
2.4 Device pair in Pitool Connection
- Skip this step directly if without controllers.
- Click on device pair in Pitool main screen, choose the device which you want to match and finishing the matching according to Pitool tutorial.
2.5 Restart headset in Pitool Connection
- Click on, the headset will be restarted.
2.6 Restarting service in Pitool Connection
- Click on, the headset will be restarted.
- After operating the connection, the buttons of headset, base stations and other related buttons are always blue. Put on the headset, and you will see a picture of the moon.
3 Pitool setup instructions
3.1 General in Pitool Setup
- Current verison: Pitool version. Click on “Check Version”, then Pitool version can be updated.
- Headset firmware: firmware version. Click on “Check Version”, then firmware version can be updated.
- Language switch: language can be chosen on Pitool.
3.2 Headset in Pitool Setup
- On this page, the headset setup can be operated.
* Tracking mode:If you don’t have base stations or controllers, please choose 9-axis mode. If you have, please choose ‘lighthouse’.
Notes: The 9-axis mode allows you to watch movies or play games, such as flying or racing games when sitting.
* Light bar: When the light bar is on, the V-shaped light on the headset will light up.
* Refresh rate: Choose your favorite refresh rate. During this time, the headset will be disconnected and reconnected.
* Brightness: Choose the brightness level which you like best
* Pupil distance offset: Adjust the pupil distance offset of the screen
* Screen vertical offset value: Adjust screen vertical offset value.
* Motion compensation: Motion compensation will be activated when you connect the controllers or Vive trackers which will be displayed in the device list.
3.3 Game in Pitool Setup
- On this page, game setup can be operated.
* Field of view: Choose different field of view Angle, different visual experience will be brought to you. The edge resolution of the screen is reduced to reach the configuration requirements of the computer. (This feature needs to be turned on before the game starts. Notes: This feature is only available on NVIDIA RTX graphics cards.
* Picture quality adjustment (need to restart SteamVR)
* Fixed fixation rendering (need to restart the App) : Change the game image quality, the default is 1.
* Compatible parallel projection (need to restart SteamVR) : If there is no overlap in some games, please tick this feature to make eyes overlap (need to restart steamVR to reopen the game for this to work).
* Open intelligent frame refill: After enabling this function, it will take effect when the game refresh rate is more than half. When the game frame is limited to half the refresh rate,the full frame display effect can be realized by adding frames.
* Open Hidden Area Mask (need to restart SteamVR): Keep the screen mask out of the field of view to optimize the performance. Don’t tick this feature when certain game screens are not working properly (need to restart steamVR for this to work).
* Compatible with Vive exclusive games (need to restart SteamVR) : Some games are not compatible with pimax headsets other than Vive, check this feature to resolve (need to restart steamVR for this to work).
* Color channel, Contrast, Brightness: Change the contrast and brightness on the screen.
Notes: Click on Apply or Save to make the modification into effect.

Import the game on this page.
If you have already downloaded the games from Oculus, you can play them via Pitool directly.
Notes: This page will automatically read and import the user's steam and oculus games.
5 Help instructions in Pitool
- Environmental diagnosis: when the headset has problems inconnection or tracking, click on the "environmental diagnosis", check the computer environment and access to the components for repair.
- Export log: click on "start getting", wait for 3 minutes -> click on "export log" again, repeat 3 timesand then send logs to us for analysis.
